Frequently Asked Questions

At what age should horses have their teeth checked and floated?
It is important to have foals teeth checked for possible bite abnormalities. But a good time for the first float, is right before you put a bit in their mouth. With a comfortable mouth many bitting issues can be avoided. This can also be a good time to pull wolf teeth. Many veterinarians will pull wolf teeth on stallions when they are gelded but fillies can have wolf teeth as well. It is good to have them removed before they are bitted up. The wolf teeth sit ahead of the pre-molars in the region of proper bit placement. Most often wolf tooth extraction is done at the time of the general float.
