What
is Livestock Premises Registration and how to register?
Premise registration
became mandatory as of January 1st
2006 by the Wisconsin Livestock Identification
Consortium (WLIC) with the help of
the Department of Agriculture, Trade
and Consumer Protection (DATCP) and
the USDA. Premise registration allows
for much faster traces when there is
an outbreak of an animal disease or an animal-borne human
disease. The animals that must be registered include “livestock”-
horses & other equine animals, cattle & other bovine
animals, swine, poultry, sheep, goats, farm-raised deer & other
cervids, bison, llamas & other camelids, ratites (emus,
ostriches), & fish. The premises that must be
registered includes- farms & hobby farms, veterinary
clinics, stables, animal markets, animal trucker & dealer
premises where animals are kept, slaughter, rendering, & dead
animal plants, livestock exhibitions, & any other location
where livestock are kept or congregated. Register
on line at www.wiid.org & click
the link for WLIC Premises Registration or call 888-808-1910. |
